Friday Fictioneers – New Life

Every week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields (thank you, Rochelle!) hosts a flash fiction challenge, to write a complete story, based on a photoprompt, with a beginning, middle and end, in 100 words or less. Post it on your blog, and include the Photoprompt and Inlinkz (the blue frog) on your page. Link your story URL. Then the fun starts as you read other peoples’ stories and comment on them!

FF - New Life 190228

New Life

It was the depressing period between seasons when dirty snow clings to banks and sere grass hides the shoots that will soon scatter colour across the meadows. The wind had been howling for days.

Klah felt lonely. He didn’t call it that, but that was what it was.

The battered Pontiac pulled up as he was loading provisions into his pick-up – bread, gammon, beans, whisky – the necessities of life. A woman climbed out, broad hips swaying, reminding him of – it couldn’t be, surely? Not after ten years.

He followed her into the store.

“Hello, Klah!” beamed Ajei and kissed him.

Thank you for reading and for your kind comment. Friends can be such a blessing, can’t they? I’m glad you found my story uplifting.
      With very best wishes

    • Dear Gabi
Thank you for reading and commenting. I’m delighted you noticed how I used the seasons changing from bleakness to warmth and light as a metaphor to describe what was happening to Klah!
      With very best wishes
