Friday Fictioneers – A Boat Trip

Every week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields (thank you, Rochelle!) hosts a flash fiction challenge, to write a complete story, based on a photoprompt, with a beginning, middle and end, in 100 words or less. Post it on your blog, and include the Photoprompt and Inlinkz on your page. Link your story URL. Then the fun starts as you read other peoples’ stories and comment on them!

The boat trip

I snooped. I confess it. Was Marcus going on the boat trip? I get sea-sick and I wasn’t going to risk it if there was no hope of even a brief time together.

I followed him on board. But, oh dear, it was so windy, and the waves were choppy. Marcus leaned against the rail taking endless photographs.

‘Gosh, it’s breezy!’ I said.

‘Is it? I suppose it is.’

‘Do you fancy a coffee to warm up?’

His eyes focussed on me. He smiled, a friendly smile.

‘I’d enjoy that,’ he replied.

I swallowed, hard. Please, not seasickness – not now!

Dining Out

Dining out

Knuckles rapped on the door. Bother!

Jean had counted on being undisturbed. He smeared a wet-wipe across his face.

“Just a moment,” he called – but the door opened. How could he have forgotten to lock it?

“Wait!” he exclaimed, panic-stricken, but it was too late.

Michael stared at him, stared at the make-up and the mirror, stared at the dress on the bed.

“Bit of a surprise,” he said.

“But hardly unheard of.”

There was a pause.

“Can I take you to dinner?”

“Thanks.”

Jean reached for his shirt. Michael touched the dress.

“This would look nicer, don’t you think?”

Parental Guidance – Don’t!

My legs swing free and a warm pine-scented breeze caresses me all over, even my toes, as I feel the first juddering of the ride, whose lurid seats resemble a beetle’s carapace, curved, metallic green, dangling from metal poles whose rust I notice as the music pounds and the movement quickens, and my feet swing out, my sandals skimming inches from the safety rail, the lights above me flashing red and amber and blue, and a disco strobe accompanies the heavy rock that endlessly pummels my ears and – we’re slowing.

Thank goodness that’s over.

“Did you enjoy it, kids?”
