Friday Fictioneers – Farewell!

Every week, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields (thank you, Rochelle!) hosts a flash fiction challenge, to write a complete story with a beginning, middle and end in 100 words or less. Post it on your blog, and include the Photoprompt and Inlinkz on your page. Link your story URL. Then the fun starts as you read other peoples’ stories and comment on them!

Farewell!

We were late. The driver was just about to close the rear door of the bus as we rounded the corner. He shouted, “Quickly! My bus leaves on time.” The other passengers grinned. The bus was never punctual.

Mike took my backpack.

“Here, I’ll pass it up to you.”

I climbed into the bus, which smelt pungent. A hairy head with a wispy white beard leaned towards me. Heavens! A goat!

I grabbed my pack.

Mike gestured to the driver to shut the door.

“Enjoy the rest of the holiday,” he grinned.

What? He’s supposed to be coming too!

Thank you for reading and for your kind comments. No, Mike was not cool – still, what do you expect from a young man who wears his baseball cap back-to-front? I’m sure she’ll have the last laugh; especially as she’s going to text Mike’s sister and let her know what a ratfink he’s been!

Thank you for reading and commenting. As you say, she’s in for an interesting ride! And she’s the sort of woman who is stimulated by adversity – she won’t mope, she’ll throw herself even more enthusiastically into learning about the place she’s visiting.

Thank you for reading and for your thoughtful comments. I had to resort to Google to discover what Goat Yoga is. I’ll stick to Downward Facing Dog I think and leave the kids to fool around on their own…I’m very pleased you thought I described the scene well.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Yes, Mike’s off to the beach, with a beer and a blonde, gold-digging tart who’ll take him for every cent before dumping him unceremoniously! I think he should have stuck with the bus…

    • Dear Bear
Thank you for reading and commenting.
I love your gentle heart! You’re right – Mike was cruel in the way he dumped her. I’m glad you enjoyed the story despite this. And my own take on how the narrative continues is very positive. She doesn’t need Mike, and she’ll have a great time getting to know the country she’s visiting and its people.

Thank you for reading and commenting.
I’m sure you’re right – Mike was not really very likeable. All the little clues of selfishness and callousness would have been there.
